Tests

Results you can see

  • results of tests you had done at the surgery
  • test results the hospital has sent to us

Results you will not see

  • test results that the hospital hasn’t sent to us
  • The hospital may contact you about your result or tell you how to get your result

If the practice asked you to have tests, someone from our team will check the results first. We’ll put them online for you to see on the NHS App or Patient Access.

We will not always call you about your results. But we may send you a text message. These texts will go to the NHS App first. If you do not read it there, it will go to your phone messages. Please tell us if your contact details change.

Test Information

Blood Tests

Blood tests check your health. They can help doctors:

  • Find out what is causing your symptoms.
  • See how well your body parts are working.
  • Check if you might get a certain illness.
  • See how well your medicine is working.

A small amount of your blood is taken for the test. Knowing why you are having the test can help you feel calm.

Your doctor, nurse, or specialist will tell you how to get ready.

You might need to:
Not eat or drink anything but water (called fasting).
Stop taking some medicines, like blood thinners. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take.
Wear loose clothes. This helps the person take blood from your arm easily.
Tell the person if you have ever fainted or felt dizzy when having blood taken. They can help you feel better.
Tell them if you are scared of needles. They can help you relax.
This typically includes your blood test request form and photo ID.
