The NHS App does a lot more than you may think
If you’re a patient at our practice aged 16 or over, you can use the NHS App. It helps you to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet for Apple (iOS) and Android devices.
Children aged 13-15 should first speak to the practice if they want to have access to the NHS App.
You can even access your NHS account on your computer without the NHS App.
It doesn’t replace existing services. You can still contact us in the usual ways. But, once you have verified your identity in the App, you will have easy, 24/7 access to a growing range of health services and information.

Help someone else
You can apply to access the health records, appointments and prescriptions of people you care for (including children). This is called “proxy access”. You can also ask for another person you trust to help you. Both the patient and the proxy must be New Road Surgery patients to use the NHS App to do this.
If you already use Patient Access you can continue to use it. But the NHS App will give you easy and secure access on your smartphone, tablet or your computer.
If you have any problems using the NHS App, you can select ‘help’ in the top right-hand corner of the app. Or visit nhs.uk/helpmeapp.

Getting started with the NHS App
This quick start video shows the main features and sections of the NHS App.
Make sure you get messages from the practice or hospital
Set up your NHS App to receive notifications. It helps us send you messages and reduces NHS costs. If you miss reading the message in the App, we’ll send a text message as well.
Book, update or cancel a COVID-19 vaccine appointment
Order a repeat prescription
Ordering prescriptions is best done using the NHS App. It allows you to see the progress of your request.
Always try to request your medication in the 7 days before you run out. If you’re ordering early, please let us know why so we don’t reject the request.
See your GP health record and test results
You’ll be able to see all current medical problems and your list of repeat medication. You’ll also be able to see test results once a GP has approved them.
Contact the practice about a health problem
This is coming to the NHS App for patients registered at Farnham Road to use Anima to request appointments or admin help. We are waiting for the App team to add Anima access and don’t have a confirmed date on when this will go live. We will update this section and publish news when you can request using the App.
Contact the practice about an admin issue
Once the Anima/NHS App service is setup, you’ll be able to request admin help for things like fit (sick) notes. We will update this when you can do this in the App.
Find NHS services
You can use the NHS App to find local NHS services.
Use NHS 111 for help and advice
When we’re closed, or have high demand, you may want to use NHS 111 for help and advice.
Switch profiles on the NHS App to help someone else
The person helping must register as a proxy user first. Both the patient and the proxy must be registered at Farnham Road Medical Group practice to use the NHS App to do this. You can’t use the NHS App for proxy purposes if the patient is registered at another practice.
